UFC 168: Anderson Silva undergoing immediate surgery for broken leg

Anderson Silva is to undergo surgery immediately after breaking his leg against Chris Weidman at UFC 168.
Anderson Silva's freak leg injury against Chris Weidman at UFC 168 will be a moment long remembered by UFC fans. In the second round, as Silva launched a leg kick at his foe, Weidman raised his leg to check the kick. Silva's leg snapped and he collapsed to the ground, clutching his shin.
The break was clearly significant, and replays and photos show that the leg appeared to break completely a bit up from the ankle.
Brett Okamoto of ESPN tweeted the following update:
"Dana White just told me the UFC's primary doctor followed Anderson Silva's ambulance in his car. Silva is having surgery immediately."
Silva could very well be done after the injury. He is 38 years old and it is going to be a long, long road to recovery if he wants to compete at a high athletic level again.
We likely won't have answers on what is next for Silva for a while as he has to deal with surgery and recovery first.

UFC 168 results: Anderson Silva leg break ends Chris Weidman rematch

A horrifying finish to the Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman rematch.
It took 16 fights but Anderson Silva was finally felled inside the Octagon when he couldn't withstand a leaping left hook from Chris Weidman at UFC 162. He was knocked out, tasting defeat for the first time in seven years. The loss cost him the middleweight championship title.
Tonight (Sat., Dec. 28, 2013), just five months later, the two met once more in the main event of the UFC 168 pay-per-view (PPV) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
And it saw one of the most awful finishes in the history of pro fighting.
Into the second round, Silva threw a hard leg kick that Weidman checked perfectly. Unfortunately, Silva's leg immediately broke in half, ending the fight and quite possibly putting an end to the Brazilian's career.
For whatever it's worth, though it doesn't seem to matter now, Weidman dominated the first round, nearly finishing Silva with punches from top position after a takedown.
This is truly sad.

Anderson Silva Injury: Breaks Leg Against Chris Weidman, Apparently Broke Ankle in Half in UFC 168

Anderson Silva Injury: Breaks Leg Against Chris Weidman, Apparently Broke Ankle in Half in UFC 168 Anderson Silva, the longtime former UFC Middleweight champion, lost against champion Chris Weidman on Saturday night during UFC 168. He appeared to fracture his ankle in half. Silva went in for a kick during the second round but then immediately collapsed on the ground in agony holding his leg. Silva’s leg kick was checked by what appeared to be Weidman’s knee and it fractured. The ankle noticeably bent in half when it struck. With the injury, Weidman retains the Middlewelt belt. UFC commentator Joe Rogan speculated that the leg break would spell the end of Silva’s career. Silva, 38, had the longest UFC title reign in the organization’s history before he lost to Weidman earlier this year. He carried out 10 consecutive title defenses and won 16 consecutive times. Several websites got different angles of the Silva injury (WARNING – GRAPHIC):
